What do your walls tell? Do they tell a story? I make artworks that tell a story. Let these stories come alive in your walls.

I loved making this Kitchen stories series. I imagined what stories could happen in the kitchen and I drew them.

When my kids were little , I used to make up short stories for them. I would orally tell these stories as they drift off to their nap. It actually became a nap time ritual and you know what, I never wrote down these stories. I had to remember them at the top of my head. I had several short stories and my daughters would pick what they wanted me to tell before their nap. I don’t really know why my stories clicked real good with my kids. My stories were almost as interesting as the children’s books we read. And boy did I read a lot to them. So thinking about what stories could happen in the kitchen brought me back to that time I used to create stories for my kids. A very familiar, comfortable, fun and creative time. Making these illustrations was like play time for me.

The original medium is colored pencil on paper and I have made it available as a giclee art print for you at my online shop. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making them.

I have always been a creative person. Through the years, I have tried not to deviate very far from anything that is not creative. That is how I find myself flourishing. That is how I grow and learn. That is when I am in my element.

I tend to gravitate towards anything creative and tend to repel work that requires too many numbers, calculations, math equations…hahaha! But hey, I absolutely can tolerate hexadecimal color values.

There have been periods and seasons in my life where I was not able to produce artworks while very occupied with family life and homeschooling my children when they were younger. But I have NEVER had any time in my life where I did not create and make things. My daily home life as a wife and mother actually allow me to be creative in many ways.

I am a proud Filipino now living in Canada with my awesome hubby and two amazing daughters. The first year of being an immigrant was a time I fell off my equilibrium. I listened to voices that told me I had to be and do certain things to survive as a new landed immigrant. One of which was to pursue work that was not related to the arts so I could earn a living. Out of fear, I must say I succumbed to that myth and I died inside. But hooray! Drum roll please! I’ve since woken up from that stupor.

I am now resolutely, audaciously, assertively, unabashed, without shame or doubt, joyfully declaring that

“I am an artist. PERIOD.”

I do not say that with arrogance but with a full realization that I’m ultimately responsible for the gift that the Lord has given me. My calling to be an artist is stronger and louder than an opinion. And here’s what I learned having lived on earth this long, talents aren’t meant for the individuals who have it. Talents were meant to serve others. So, when I make artworks now, I have a better sense that…

It can be received by just one or many. The number is insignificant really. Reception does not only refer to owning the art piece but the mere point of seeing and having the opportunity to be moved by that piece of art.

Art like music is a powerful force that can move, inspire and heal. My deeper understanding now of what art can do makes me excited and motivated to pursue art even more. If I can bring joy, relief and healing through my artwork then that’s my jam!

What do I make anyway? And why do I do what I do?

I make mixed media artworks, drawings and illustrations that present a playful narrative. I’m extremely fascinated by visual storytelling. Creating art is how I process and deal with my deep emotions and thoughts to achieve understanding, acceptance, release and joy. In my art, I prefer to depict a specific part of the story and let the viewers create their own interpretation so that they can be recipients of the healing and joy that art can bring.

An exciting journey ahead awaits and let’s see how I roll from here on. The possibilities are infinite, and they can be outrageously awesome!

Join me as I tell stories through my artworks. Check out some of the works I’ve done. Explore my website and I hope that the art pieces will resonate with you. Give me a shout out here if it does!

My name is Queti Azurin and I am a visual artist.

I believe that visual art is subjective.

A visual artist makes and creates out of the recesses of their heart and soul. A part of that art piece is an extension of what is contained in their mind and heart at a certain point in time. A tangible expression of deep thoughts, emotions, convictions and beliefs.

Not everyone may appreciate or even dig certain types of art or a particular medium used and that is a fact that most artists know. But an artist profoundly wants to find an audience to share this tangible kind of communication and expression. The probable absence of such does not stop the artist from creating anyway.

When you find art that resonates with you, or that moves or grips you, or that gives you joy, or gives you such delight, or that provokes you to think or draws you in then you’ve found your type of art.

Then owning that art piece and having to see and feel it will bring you joy. There are also art pieces that cause some sort of emotional healing and relief especially if the art speaks to you in a personal level.

If my kind of art made your heart beat ( joyfully, I hope) and is something you want to own, you can shop here.

Right now I do have designs that are on apparels under Vida. You can purchase them online here.

The collection is entitled “Seasons In The Woodlot.” The inspiration comes from the changing views and images that happen in the woodlot through the seasons. The woodlot is in front of where I live so I have had the delight of seeing how it transforms.

Here is a peek of some of the pieces from that collection.
